Sears has gone particularly promotional in its Big Weekend Event commercial for 2014. We expect a hard sell in this kind of TV ad, and Sears does not disappoint.

Sears also ran a TV commercial for the event in 2013. The previous spot ran sales information, but also spent time with a creative penguin scene. That's all gone in 2014. The campaign iteration is now laser-focused on promotional creative tactics.

The agency team presents us with the big typeface, large savings and product focus that are hallmarks of a retail sales approach. In this type of commercial style, the ultimate effectiveness of the ad depends largely on the magnitude of the sale and the equity of the featured brands.
