A wife of a retired firefighter discusses how her husband got cancer, a common illness amongst those retired from the profession. She dug deeper into the environmental factor that may have contributed to her husband's cancer diagnosis. She found out that PFAS, a manmade chemical known to cause cancer, were used in firefighting gear. Nobody would listen to her because she lacked a college degree, but she eventually found Graham Peaslee, a nuclear physics at the University of Notre Dame, who's research on PFAS has contributed to changes in industry and government regulations. Peaslee's research confirmed the wife's concerns about PFAS exposure amongst firefighters and has led to changes in firefighting gear.
