Verizon asks, how can asphalt help save the environment? The company shares its efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions as well as commute times for thousands of drivers. Environmental scientist Daniel Jacob explains that for every hour a person sits in their car idling, they send about half a gallon of gasoline into the air, amounting to about 10 pounds of carbon dioxide over the course of a week. In order to remedy this, the city of Sacramento is partnering with Verizon to make traffic flow better by installing intelligent asphalt with embedded sensors, along with traffic light cameras, so the traffic flow can be analyzed and optimized. Verizon's mission is to give people the ability to do more in this world by making cities smarter and greener.
