A woman rushes through a crowded airport to try to make her flight. A same-sex couple introduces their adopted baby to the grandparents. A man rides the back of a motorcycle while giving directions to his new destination. A traveler steps inside a mosque to take in the breathtaking scenery and moments of silence. Expedia knows traveling is all about making different kinds of connections. That's why their service helps you stay connected, wherever you are.
iSpot Review - June 18, 2015
Expedia explores the deeper reasons behind why we travel in
their "Connections" ad. "Connections" is refreshingly subdued for a travel
commercial. There are no tropical resorts with umbrella-filled drinks, no YOLO
messaging that you better get out there and experience life. Just a beautiful
spot about meeting and connecting with people you would otherwise never have
the opportunity to.
The ad is based on the insight that traveling is all about
connections. Connecting with a new person, place or experience is the basis of
every trip. But, in order to have those experiences, you have to first do the
boring stuff like catching your flight and finding your hotel. Expedia helps you make the travel connections
that lead to personal connections.
Some of Expedia's previous advertising has touched on how
their services are like a travel companion. Here, it's taken a step further and
shows how Expedia makes incredible moments possible. The actual Expedia product
is very subtly slipped into the spot. The focus is on showing the incredible
travel moments, with a just a couple instances where it's made clear they're being
made possible by Expedia. In this case, that's more than enough for this
inspiring and highly original spot.
