Former U.S. Army Green Beret and Seattle Seahawk Nate Boyer recalled his first time hearing about former NFL player Colin Kaepernick. He thought that the former San Francisco 49ers player hated America and penned an open letter advising the quarterback to take a knee. In response, Kaepernick asked Boyer to take a knee with him which Boyer could not do, but he would stand in support next to him. Boyer goes on to state that you won't always agree with how people express their freedoms, but it's important to have an open conversation which is what the freedom of speech is all about.
